Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River

From a small plane one can see the extent of these falls that lie between Zambia and Zimbabwe

We visited in September when the water levels are very low. I would love to go back and see this in full flow!

There is always something very special about a sunset in Africa. This was taken on the Zambezi River

This was taken at the top of the falls from where we were swimming in the Devils Pool which is only possible when the water is low.

At dusk a view of the Zambezi through these beautiful natural arches

  1. You had more than we :-) The second from the top was dry when we were there in Dec 1994. I have just checked our photos taken from that little plane. It's so lovely to be taken back by your photos and reliving the sunset cruise on the Zambezi with hippos near the shore a crocodile drifting along, reliving the nearly dry waterfalls which still were bigger and more impressive than the Niagara Falls, reliving the rafting tour through the canyon below the falls and the nightly game drive. Vic Falls has created many precious memories.

  2. Like you the memories of Africa are deeply imprinted in my mind. I will never forget that wonderful holiday when we celebrated our silver wedding anniversary with our two boys. We had our first taste of Africa here as we saw elephant, hippo, zebra, giraffe, monkeys and baboons at such close quarters. My abiding memory will be of those wonderful African sunsets and swimming in the Devils Pool right at the edge of the falls an incredible experience!
